Christopher Currin, Mercer Global Advisors, Inc.
Chris was born in Hawaii, where DDT and above-ground nuclear weapons tests were early influences on his development. His parents came home to Texas before his first birthday, inducing the chronic island withdrawal pains he endures to this day. Chris’s earliest memories are of riding horseback through a Bois d’Arc forest. He can talk like a Texan, but generally does so only when engaged in conversation with state troopers or similar dignitaries. This reluctance is most likely the result of early encounters with Pennsylvania nuns whose Christian charity was eclipsed by their fervor for standard American English and ardent belief in corporal punishment. He is a graduate of St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico and recipient of Clark and Watson fellowships. Before finding his true profession, he worked in construction, print and broadcast journalism, residential lending and insurance sales. Chris started a fee-only financial planning firm called Pegasus Advisors in 2000, which served a diverse group of clients, the two largest groups being single women and families like his, with children who have disabilities. He was a founding member of the Alliance of Comprehensive Planners and has been named by his peers to the annual list of Best Financial Planners in Dallas since 2002. After 16 years as a solo advisor, Chris recently merged his practice into Mercer Global Advisors, one of the largest fee-only wealth management firms in the U.S., with locations in 23 cities across the country. He is acting as branch manager and client advisor for Mercer in Dallas, still working with smart, busy folks who find that, by trusting him to obsess about money for them, they can focus more energy on their own careers and families and all the things that make life enjoyable. Over the years, his volunteer activities have benefitted his professional associations, Scouting, public schools and parent advocacy groups like Texas Parent to Parent. Chris met his wife, Holly Hope, in 1980. Their children, Cormac (22) and Flannery (19), are doing what they can to keep their parents active and in touch with contemporary pop culture.
